Stormtroopers are gone: the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation rely on "Storm-Z" units-Britain's intelligence

According to the British Defense Ministry, Russia wanted to create a kind of elite units. However, in practice, it turned out that "Storm-Z" is actually penalty battalions with extremely low logistical and medical support. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to rely on specially highlighted units "Storm-Z" during local offensive operations in Ukraine. However, these units have the lowest level of logistical and medical support, so their effectiveness remains questionable.

On October 24, the press service of the UK Ministry of Defense reported. British intelligence notes that initially these units were conceived by the occupiers as relatively elite groups capable of capturing tactical initiative on the battlefield. And for the first time they appeared in the forefront of 2022. However, at least since the spring of 2023, "Storm-Z" actually turned into penalties, equipped with convicts and military personnel of regular troops who received disciplinary penalties.

"According to numerous evidence, these units have the lowest priority in logistical and medical provision, while they were repeatedly ordered to attack," the Ministry of Defense reports.

The British department added that despite the effective defense conducted by Russian troops, the existence of units such as "Storm-Z" indicates that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is undergoing great difficulty with the creation of a combat infantry capable of conducting effective offensive operations. Earlier it was reported that former Russian mercenaries of the Wagner PEC and Storm-Z detachments began to enter the Russian Volunteer Corps.
