Stephen Compton, a researcher of Middle East archeology, used modern methods of mapping to find what, in his opinion, are the remains of Assyrian military camps. Compton said that this discovery is consistent with the descriptions found in Assyrian texts, Greek stories and the Jewish Bible.
The decisive proof is the stone panels stored in the British Museum, which were once part of the Palace of the Assyrian Tsar Sinachherib. These panels, which depict a fortified military camp with 24 watchtowers, were compared with the early aerial photographs of Liches, Israel to create a virtual map that identifies the location of the camp.
Compton explained that by taking photos of the early XX century on the landscape, depicted on Assyrian reliefs, he was able to determine the location of the camp that corresponds to the shapes and features of Assyrian military structures. This discovery is important not only in view of his biblical connections, but also for the understanding of the haymerib's campaign in Levant.
Historical sources show that the siege of Jerusalem ended when Sinachherib received tribute from the Jewish Tsar Ezekiah, which allowed Ezekiah to remain in power as a vassal. The biblical story adds a supernatural element, describing an angel who impressed the Assyrian soldiers, which led to their retreat. The found place shows the ruins that correspond to the Ruins of the haycherib camp in Lichash.
Compton hopes that future archaeological excavations will help you understand this important discovery better. This study not only confirms part of the biblical narrative, but also deepens our understanding of the ancient history of the Middle East. By identifying the potential locations of lost ancient cities, such as Livna and Nob, these findings offer a richer intersection of historical and biblical stories. Earlier, Focus wrote about a mound of 5300 years.
