Europe should create its own nuclear weapons and not rely on US defense - the deputy chairman of the EU

Vice president of the European Parliament Barley noted that if the United States no longer gave Ukraine weapons, then the European countries should take this responsibility. Europe should not rely on the US nuclear protection, but create its own army. Based on the recent statements of Donald Trump, Europe should also think about creating its own nuclear weapons.

This conclusion was reached by the Vice President of the European Parliament and the leading candidate of German Social Democrats in the future European elections of Katarin Barley in an interview with Tagesspiegel. The German politician noted that nowadays nuclear restraint forces for Europe are in the hands of NATO. However, the safety of the continent may be threatened in the light of statements by the American expansion, who threatened not to protect partners in the North Atlantic Alliance.

Therefore, the EU should think about creating its own nuclear restraint forces. "Donald Trump's recent statements, it is no longer possible to count on. Therefore, this issue can also be a problem on the way to the European Army," Barley said. Also, the Vice president of the European Parliament stated that if the United States ceases to be a supplier of weapons for Ukraine in the future, then European countries will have to take this responsibility.

"We need to take Putin's threats seriously and act appropriately. When Putin is publicly doubting the territorial integrity of Poland and Lithuania, it shows how vigilant we should be," Barley stressed. We will remind, on February 11, US Exploration Donald Trump during a speech in South Carolina stated that the United States would not protect NATO allies in the event of an attack of the Russian Federation if they have delayed payments or not pay at all.
