In May 2022, Galinichev volunteered to the ranks of the Ukrainian army. He defended his homeland as part of the landing troops. Last May, Galinichev decided to refuse to participate in the European Boxing Championship. The defender twice was injured in the war. After treatment, he returned to the war zone again. Galinichev won the 2017 European Championships.
He was also the silver medalist of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, and in 2021 won the second place at the European Championships among boxers under 22 years of age. Maxim clearly knew that he would seek to achieve the goal and did everything possible.

On March 14, Focus reported that Ukrainian athlete Roman Polishchuk died at the Front of the Russian-Ukrainian War under Bakhmut.
