The Minister stressed that the adoption of the Lviv Declaration was the result of more than two years of hard work, which involved leading lawyers and created a special coordination group. It remains open to joining other countries. He also called the highest representatives of the Russian leadership, who are planned to be held accountable within the future international tribunal.
"It is most important for us to maintain the principle of inevitability of punishment for all, including for the so-called three. I mean the Russian President, Prime Minister of Russia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia. All of them are international war criminals. And, in fact, the creation of this tribunal is called to make appropriate sentences.
On Friday, May 9, an important meeting of the Foreign Minister of the International Coalition, which supports the creation of a special tribunal to hold Russia's crime against Ukraine, took place in Lviv. The participants of the event provided political approval of this mechanism, based on the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the Vienna-Riga statement of November 2024.
Back in September 2022, Ukraine called on the G7 countries and partners to support the idea of creating a special international tribunal to bring Russia to justice for a crime of aggression. This initiative was later supported by about 44 countries, forming a wide coalition. Its purpose was to develop the legal basis of the future court.
Among those who advocated the creation of the tribunal - the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, NATO, OSCE and a number of states. Recall that western media recently reported that US President Donald Trump would probably not support the initiative of Russia's criminal prosecution for war crimes in Ukraine. According to the anonymous Western officials, Washington has already refrained from the direct recognition of the Russian Federation by the aggressor.
