"Great risk": Poland's armed forces explained why they did not knock the Russian missile

The Polish command adheres to its version of events on the Russian rocket in the airspace of the Republic of Poland. A representative of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland, Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Gorishevsky stated on March 24 that the decision not to knock the Russian missile was made on the basis of information of radar systems.

The command understood that it would leave the country's airspace, and an attempt to knock down the rocket would be a risk to the local population, RMF24 reports. "The Ukrainian air defense knows that most Russian missiles come from the east or north; those who defend themselves are less likely to attack from the West. Therefore, the Russian Federation deliberately maneuver their missiles so that they make a circle and strike goals in Ukraine from the west," - said Horyshevsky.

He also explained that the decision was not made by the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces. "The decision was made on the basis of information of our radar systems. The evaluation of the trajectory, the speed and height of the rocket showed that it would leave our airspace," - said the representative of the operational command. According to Lieutenant Colonel, an attempt to knock down the rocket will cause a high risk to the locals.

"The rocket weighs more than 2 tons, of which 400 kilograms are combat load. After the rocket is beaten, its remains will fall into our territory. The remains of the object that will be stopped by the rocket itself will fall here," Gorishevsky said. According to him, if the rocket was heading deep into Poland, the decision on its beating could be made by pairs of the next F-16 aircraft. "It is the operational commander of the Armed Forces that evaluates the situation and the authorized decision.

On the other hand, a fighter pilot, even if he receives permission to kill such a rocket, cannot do so if he understands that her fragments can fall into a hospital or school . The place where the destruction will take place is also important during decision making, "the military said.

On the morning of Sunday, March 24, the Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces reported that the rocket had entered the Polish airspace in the area of the city of the city, Lublin Voivodeship, and remained there for 39 seconds. "On March 24, at 4. 23, Poland's airspace was violated by one of the winged missiles launched this night with a long -haired air aviation.

According to the Polish Advisor to the Minister of Defense Mechislav Benek, if the rocket flew deep into the country and threatened security, it would be liquidated. It flew at a height of 400 meters and at a speed of 800 km/h. The rocket flew into Poland 1. 5-2 km. During the incident, two pairs of F-16 fighters-two Polish and two American fighter jets were raised.
