Wants to weaken NATO: Putin creates conditions for escalation against the Baltic countries - isw

According to analysts, Putin showed that the Russian Federation is not interested in honest negotiations with Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin creates the conditions for future escalation against Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Analysts of the American Institute for War Study (ISW) reported.

The report of January 16 states that during a meeting with the heads of municipal entities of the regions of Russia, the head of the Kremlin stated that Latvia and other Baltic countries allegedly thrown ethnic Russians into other states. And this situation "directly affects the security of the Russian Federation. Analysts noted what Putin was doing, probably as part of a wider attempt to weaken NATO.

However, the ISW did not notice any signs that Russia's attack against the Baltic states is inevitable or even probable. Most likely, Putin just wants to create information conditions for Russia's future aggressive actions abroad. The reason will be the protection of compatriots. For example, in mid -December 2023, Putin threatened Finland. Analysts also noted that Putin showed that the Russian Federation is not interested in honest negotiations with Ukraine.

He repeated his accusations of alleged prevalence in Ukraine of Nazism. In addition, he said, the Ukrainian "peace formula" is in fact a continuation of the ban on President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to negotiate with the Russian Federation.

"The Kremlin, apparently, lacks a consistent basis for current Russian offensive operations, which could be represented by the Russian public, despite the fact that Putin seems to be used by the role of commander -in -chief of Russian armed force in the framework of his election campaign," - it reads report. It should be reminded that Zelensky during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 16 stated that Putin wanted the war in Ukraine.
