Christmas Armistice: The Russian Federation declared a temporary cease ceasefire in Ukraine

President Putin instructed the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to set a ceasefire regime for 36 hours. The Kremlin reported that the decision was made in connection with the relevant call of Patriarch Cyril. Russian President Volodymyr Putin instructed the Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7, the ceasefire regime across the line of combat collision of the parties in Ukraine.

The decision was made in connection with the call of the head of the ROC Patriarch Cyril to establish the so -called Christmas truce. The Kremlin press service reports. The publication states that a large number of Orthodox Christians live in hostilities. Therefore, to give them the opportunity to go to Christmas services, the Kremlin called on the Ukrainian side to also impose silence.

"Based on the fact that a large number of citizens who profess Orthodoxy lives in the fighting areas, we urge the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire regime and enable them to visit the Christmas Eve, as well as on Christmas Day," the message reads . During 2022, the Russian side repeatedly announced the silence regime in hostilities.

Recall that at the end of April, when fierce battles in Mariupol were conducted, the Russian military spoke about the creation of humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians. However, according to the head of Mariupol Vadim Boychenko, during the preparation together with the Red Cross for evacuation, the Russian forces began shelling from heavy weapons.

It should be noted that before this, President Vladimir Putin declared "fundamental consent" with the UN Secretary General Anthony Guterrish about the evacuation of citizens from humanitarian corridors. On January 5, Patriarch Cyril appeared on the official website of the ROC, in which the hierarch urged the opposing parties to stop fire and establish a "Christmas Truce".
