According to the 2019 Agreement, a 30-kilometer zone (also known as the Security Area) was created between Moscow and Ankara on the Syrian-Turkish border. The demilitarized zone, on the one hand, should stop the attacks of Kurdish formations on the border areas of Turkey, and on the other - to protect the Syrian areas of residence of Kurds from attacks by the Turkish army.
The Kremlin, in turn, confirmed that in the framework of the conversation of Erdogan and Putin it was about the Russian-Turkish agreement of 2019. "The defensive and foreign policy agencies of the two countries will maintain close contacts in this connection," the official message reads.
