This is the AMS1 ship, and two more civilian ships were reached to Ukraine: Sahin 2 and Yilmaz Kaptan (Greece and Turkey/Georgia). After Russian President Vladimir Putin, on July 17, led his country from the UN mediation agreement on the sea corridor, which allowed the safe transportation of Ukrainian grain, mass shelling of Russian military Odessa and other Ukrainian food export sites began.
The shelling was intended not only to displace Ukrainian exports of grain from the world markets, but also to support the support of Kiev in the EU, especially among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, violating the domestic agricultural markets of countries. On July 19, Russia stated that it would consider "military goals" all naval vessels that go to Ukrainian ports.
And on July 24, the bombing of the Russian portiloners of the Ukrainian port of "Reni" on the Danube was held, which was a lot of exporters. The potential chaos in Romanian ports should not only affect the export of Ukrainian grain, but also complicate transportation in the opposite direction of fuel and military assistance - all that allows Ukraine to withstand Russia's aggression.
However, it was not a week after this event, but there were exporters who went to conscious risk and sent their ships to Ukraine. What influenced the decision of brave sailors to go to this step? At least four NATO military aircraft were patrolled over Ukraine's ships: US NATO Patrol Plane, US NATO-8 American Surface Council radar, US Air Force RQ-4 drone and E-3 aircraft from NATO.
None of the aircraft usually has weapons, but NATO fighters, including Italian Eurofighter fighters and Romanian F-16, were near Romania. Why didn't the Russian Federation intervene? Neither "Sergei Kotov" nor any other Russian ship intervened. The main reason is that three civilians were heading not to Odessa, but to Izmail. Russian missiles regularly strikes Odessa, but attacks on the Danube ports occur less often, probably because of the proximity of these ports to NATO.
From Izmail to Romania, only a few hundred meters. Probably, the Russian Federation did not even try to prevent the shipment of the ship in order not to provoke a military conflict with the coastal countries of the Black Sea region, including NATO members - Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. A successful blockade breakthrough can signal to international exporters that it is quite safe to restore Ukrainian port operations.
