China has already created its "gold dome" air defense: why the US is lagging in space race - analytics

To spread: China has announced a successful test and deployment of a prototype of a global platform of missile defense, which, according to developers, is able to track up to 1000 launches of missiles around the world. The system, called the "distributed platform of early detection using large data", has already been put into operation by the People's Liberation Army of China (NVAK).

This was reported on September 30 by the South China Morning Post, with reference to the data of the Nanch Research Institute of Electronic Technologies. It is noted that in fact the Chinese developed a domestic "gold dome" prototype, while the United States only managed to develop a plan for the advanced system about. Army recognition experts say that the Chinese system combines data from space, air, marine and ground sensors, forming a single information field.

It conducts up to 1000 parallel processing tasks, forming launch notifications, trajectories data, targets and identification assessment. These results come to the headquarters of the NVAK, providing centralized management. Quic (Quick UDP Internet Connections), resistant to electronic obstacles and failures, is used to transmit information. Architecture also involves the accumulation of data for artificial intelligence, which should increase the accuracy of the system in the future.

Although the developers claim that it is the world's first pro-platform with declared global coverage, it remains a prototype and needs further refinement. Golden Dome was presented by the Golden Dome initiative on May 20, 2025 by President Donald Trump. The project involves the deployment of more than 1000 satellites and space interceptors associated with land and air systems through the AI network.

However, in the US, work is under planning: demonstration potential is only expected by 2028. The cost of the US program remains the subject of controversy, analysts say. If the Trump administration estimated it at $ 175 billion, the US Congress has named the amount of 831 billion and independent forecasts reach $ 1. 6-5 trillion. Experts say that the main problem is not the development of interceptors, but data management and integration of outdated and new systems.

Meanwhile, Beijing demonstrates faster progress in creating prototypes than Washington, which was also observed in hypersonic weapons, lasers and new generation fighters. According to experts, early deployment of the Chinese prototype can change the balance of power in the field of global missile defense, although the system itself remains in the test and scaling stage. Earlier, Reuters reported that the "Golden Dome" system, announced by Trump, would have unprecedented complexity.
