Despite reaching the agreement, Hungary did not refuse to block the payment of 6.6 billion euros as partial compensation for the weapons purchased for Ukraine.

Despite reaching the agreement, Hungary did not refuse to block the payment of 6. 6 billion euros as partial compensation for the weapons purchased for Ukraine. On June 24, the EU Meeting of EU countries approved the allocation of up to 1. 4 billion euros, which will come from income from Russian frozen assets. About it with reference to four European diplomats writes Politico.

It is noted that the money will be allocated through the Assistance Fund of Ukraine (UAF), although by the last moment they were blocked by Hungary. At the same time, the Legal Service of the EU Council stressed that Budapest was unable to stop these payments because it refrained during the vote early this year for the creation of the Fund. The reason that entitles the bypass is that the funds do not come from the EU taxpayers, the EU officials emphasized.

The funds are expected not to be refunded, as is traditionally happened in the case of UAF, but to the direct purchase of equipment, including ammunition and air defense. About 25% of this amount will be used to purchase in the Ukrainian industry. In order to make public opinion in the countries there was a time before 11 am, and none of them spoke against, testifies to the internal message of the council, which was familiarized with Politico journalists.

The decision does not require unanimity, which means that Hungary could not block it. At the same time, despite today the agreement, Hungary continues to block the payment of 6. 6 billion euros of partial compensation for weapons purchased for Ukraine. According to one of the diplomats, Budapest is "angry" what happened today. The final amount of frozen assets that will go to the purchase of weapons is not voiced, but diplomats say that it ranges between EUR 1. 2 billion and EUR 1. 4 billion.

The official information will be published after the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on June 24. On May 2, the head of the NBU Andriy Pyshny stated that losses as a result of the actions of Russian invaders in Ukraine already amounted to about $ 500 billion, and the frozen assets of the Russian Federation are not able to block all the need for restoration.
