Will the Mongolian Desert in Ukraine after the war: Sociologist's forecast

It is impossible for a large area to become a "wasteland" in Ukraine. According to the Deputy Director of Scientific Work of the Institute of Demography and the problems of NASUR Gladun's NASU, it is necessary to conduct a census of the population after the war. Many Ukrainian settlements have been destroyed through hostilities.

However, according to the Deputy Director of Scientific Work of the Institute of Demography and Problems of Life Quality of NASU Alexander Gladun, this territory will not turn into a "Mongolian wasteland". He reported this in an interview with TSN. "Many IDPs are already stating that they would like to return to their previous residence, but they have a huge problem with housing," said Alexander Gladun. He believes that the destroyed places will not be inhabited in the postwar period.

While urbanization occurred in these regions before the full -scale invasion of these regions, the rural population was gradually decreasing. There was also less employment in agriculture due to increased productivity. Thus, according to Gladun, on the one hand there is an "objective process" and on the other - "consequences of hostilities".

"After the war, we need to conduct a census to know the number of residents of the region, especially its sexual and age structure, educational level and more. We need to work more actively with IDPs, they want to return or not to the place of residence. And if To be attached to the economy, in the event of a lack of labor, it is necessary to stimulate the movement of the population to these regions, "he explained.

The demographer stressed that "it cannot be a vast territory in Ukraine," in particular, it is "the wrong policy in the displaced population. " However, most issues will be resolved after the war. We will remind, on January 23, Focus told that some of the population of Ukraine went abroad through hostilities, while the share would leave the country after the war. On January 24, it became known that in Ukraine the average life expectancy of men decreased from 65 to 57 years.
