In the US, they warned that the missiles for Patriot would soon stop supplying Ukraine - NYT

The publication notes that US systems designed to intercept ballistic missiles played a key role in the battle for the Ukrainian sky. The US air defense systems provided to Ukraine played a crucial role in protecting from Russian attacks. Nevertheless, Washington warned of the inability to provide long -term provision of these systems. About it on Saturday, January 6, writes the American newspaper The New York Times, citing Washington officials.

Last December, Russia released more than 120 missiles in Ukrainian cities, which led to the death of at least 44 people, including 30 in Kiev. The Ukrainian forces have declared a successful interception of 87 of 90 drones aimed at targets throughout the country. In the following days, at least 99 rockets and 35 drones were released in Kyiv and other cities, which led to the death of five and dozens of people.

Over the past five days, the UN has recorded 90 cases of the death of civilians and 421 cases of injury. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia has released more than 500 missiles and drones around the country. General Valery Zaluzhny, the Supreme Commander of Ukraine, emphasized that the enemy does not intend to stop, and the country needs more systems and ammunition.

However, the White House and Pentagon are warned that the US will soon not be able to provide Ukrainian Patriot batteries with interceptors, which ranges from $ 2 to $ 4 million per piece. "Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, Russia has sent more than 3800 drones and 7400 missiles to Ukrainian cities and settlements. At the same time, Ukraine has become a landfill for a number of air defense systems, Ukrainian military states," NYT writes.

The systems mentioned by the journalists vary from "Slygers" to complex systems capable of affecting targets up to 60 miles (96. 5 km). There is also a NASAMS system created by the United States and Norway. Of all these systems, only Patriot is designed to combat ballistic missiles. "Only" Petriots "are designed to combat ballistic missiles, and since then, as the first Patriot battery came to the battle space, it changed the course of the battle for the sky," the newspaper writes.

On December 14, it became known that Germany handed over a regular military assistance package to Ukraine, which included the second Patriot air defense system from the Germans, as well as the rocket to it. In addition, Germany transferred 7 390 ammunition to Ukraine to 155 mm artillery. On December 22, it was reported that Japan agreed to provide the United States with rockets to Patrioot anti-aircraft missile systems.
