EU decided to exclude Russian gas from joint procurement: where will fuel be taken

The European Commission hires a mediator who will calculate all requests and find profitable gas offers. EU countries are obliged to buy 13. 5 billion cubic meters of gas under the new mechanism to fill the repositories in 2023. At a meeting on November 24 in Brussels, the Ministers of Energy of the European Union agreed to exclude Russian gas from joint procurement contracts in Brussels. This is stated in the European Commission's statement following the meeting of ministers.

The volume of joint purchases next year should be at least 15% of the gas storage facilities of the Member States-13. 5 billion cubic meters. Officials believe that European countries will buy gas in the international market and refuse to supply blue fuel from Russia. "Member States particularly emphasized that Russian gas will be expelled from joint purchases," officials said.

New measures, as noted in the European Commission, will increase the solidarity of countries with an emergency and gas shortage, as well as limit the volatility of energy prices. The EU hire a mediator to calculate aggregate demand and search for gas supply in the world markets. EU Member States will oblige companies to use mediator services to bring the purchased gas volume to 15% of their obligations to fill in gas storage facilities.

The second stage involves the right of companies to buy gas through the platform individually or jointly from manufacturers or gas suppliers, the commission explained. It should be noted that, according to Bloomberg, the supply of Russian liquefied gas in October this year approached the record volume. Raw exports increased by 1. 1% in annual dimension to 2. 9 million tons. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravetsky compared Russia with a drug gun, who "planted" Europe for cheap gas.
