More than 50,000 pilgrims are expected to arrive in Uman. There are now about 500 pilgrims in the city, but the main flow is expected next week. In order to guarantee safety and control over compliance with the legislation on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons, local authorities and law enforcement agencies have already switched to increased mode of work. Rosh Ha-Shan is a Jewish New Year that symbolizes the beginning of the New Year on the Jewish calendar.
It is considered a time of repentance, prayer and reconciliation. The celebration includes prayers, reading of the torah and special rites. Uman traditionally becomes the place of collection of Hasidim because of the existence of a grave of the founder of Bratslav Hasidism - Nakhman Tzadik. Every year, during Rosh Ha-Shan, his followers come here to pray and hold a holiday in the place of his burial, which is one of the greatest shrines for Hasidim.
Pilgrims believe that the prayer on the grave of Tzadik in Rosh Ha-Shan will help to purify themselves from sins and receive blessings for the next year, so every year thousands of his followers come to Uman to celebrate this holiday. Recall that in 2023 in Uman during the celebration of Rosh Ha-Shan worked a special regime of entry and exit. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, then 35,000 pilgrims came to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
