In the spring of this year, the Department of Citizenship and Migration (PMLP) rejected its request. Disagreeing with the decision, the Russian citizen appealed to the administrative district court. The judgment indicates that the woman arrived in Latvia with her husband, who was forced to leave Russia after receiving the summons in October 2022. The couple left Russia and headed to Georgia. After two weeks in Georgia, they decided to go to Latvia and invite shelter.
But after arriving in Latvia, the man died. The court did not recognize the woman's fear of politically motivated persecution by the Russian authorities in connection with her political views. Taking into account the above circumstances, the request for granting asylum was rejected. We will remind that the border of Russia and Lithuania was crossed by Russian lieutenant Ivan Korolev, who refused to serve in the army of the Russian Federation and asked for political asylum.
