Bulgaria refuses Russian gas after Trump's call to the UN

To spread: Bulgaria intends to terminate the contract for Russian gas transit in 2026. So the country reacted to the call of the head of the White House of Donald Trump to the European Union to abandon energy from the Russian Federation. The contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas must be terminated, and at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Bulgaria Rosen Zhelyazkov said.

"We, as part of the European Union, will join the Union's decisions on the short -term suspension - by 2026 - the actions of contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas," the head of the Bulgarian government emphasized. He said that by 2026, Russian natural gas contracts must be terminated, and in the long run - by 2028 - it must be completely excluded from the Bulgarian energy market.

Zhelyazkov emphasized that all natural gas consumption in Bulgaria, both for industry and for the population, is covered with imports of liquefied gas supplied through specialized terminals. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Liaien after meeting with US President Donald Trump in the fields of the UN General Assembly, that by 2027, Europe "would finally end Russian fossil fuel". However, not everyone in the European Union supports this initiative.

Yes, Hungary is not going to refuse to import Russian oil and gas. The Foreign Minister of the country Peter Siyarto said that without energy from the Russian Federation, the safe energy supply of Hungary was impossible. Slovakia, whose Prime Minister, Robert Fitzo, also stressed that the Slovak Republic would never support the RePowreu initiative, which provides for the abandonment of European Union countries from 1 January 2028.

The head of the Slovak government explained his refusal by the fact that rePowreu would harm the Slovak households and economics, and will further reduce the competitiveness of the entire EU. Meanwhile, Turkey has signed a contract with one of the largest independent integrated independent energy and commodity groups of Mercury for the supply of liquefied gas from the United States.
