International Working Group on Sanctions against Russia has prepared new proposals to increase pressure so that the Russian Federation agrees to ceasefire

The International Working Group on Sanctions Against Russia The day before it introduced a working document No. 23 "New Sanctions to force Russia to agree to ceasefire in Ukraine". Proposals include additional sanctions against energy and financial sectors, confiscation of frozen Russian assets and restriction of Russia's access to Western military technologies.

In particular, the emphasis on the fact that it is necessary to end the purchase of Russian energy, which means continuing the fight against the shadow fleet and oil. It is about imposing sanctions against the rest of the tankers of the shadow fleet and the associated infrastructure. In addition, there is a proposal to create a mechanism of escrow, that is, a conventional storage account, to block Russia's income from energy exports.

He assumes that the funds will be kept in a special bank account. It is also proposed to impose secondary sanctions and tariffs against countries that continue to buy Russian oil and a step -by -step embargo on ports and energy infrastructure of Russia.

Recommendations on the financial sphere apply to the restriction of all Russian banks, strengthening control over the circulation of cryptocurrencies and the introduction of personal sanctions against officials of the Ministry of Finance, members of the board of central bank and heads of major state banks that support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In the field of military technologies, they propose to strengthen control over the export of critically important goods and equipment, to expand the list of relevant categories of goods, to introduce a check of the end consumer and to prevent bypassing restrictions through third countries. Since most of the frozen Russian assets are concentrated in Europe, the working group calls for European partners to direct these funds in favor of Ukraine.

“This offer package is a road card for the European Union and G7, how to really increase pressure on Russia. The priorities are obvious: the accelerated cessation of Russian energy procurement, closing schemes through the shadow fleet and third countries, stricter control of financial channels. The key is to act quickly and coordinated until the Kremlin's income falls. Every month, delay means billions of dollars for war against Ukraine, ”the group of the group Andriy Yermak emphasized.

The International Working Group on Sanctions against Russia was created on the initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022. The countries that are part of the sanction coalition, including the United States, EU countries, the United Kingdom and Japan have repeatedly taken into account the group's recommendations in imposing new sanctions against Russia.
