The official noted that he expects extremely difficult months. The general director of the DTEK company, Maksym Tkachenko, also speaks about Russia's intention to completely destroy the energy system of Ukraine, who notes that the intensity of attacks on the energy system has increased in the last two months. During a recent press conference, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noted that the government should be ready for any circumstances.
"We understand what we have to do, we understand what we need, and our partners also know from us how much electricity we will have to import in case of difficulties," Zelenskyy explained. At the same time, the ambassador of one of the European countries in Ukraine believes that Russia's goal is not simply to turn off the electricity in the homes of Ukrainians.
He is convinced that the occupiers also want to kill the Ukrainian economy - "so that they cannot buy bread in the morning at the bakery and cannot go to work, because there is no electricity at the factory. " One of the Ukrainian government officials believes that the energy crisis is currently the main problem of the Ukrainian government. "People are tired after four years of war, and I'm afraid they will lose motivation. It's hard to produce anything without electricity.
There will be problems with telecommunications. It will be easy for us to strike at the front line," the official said. At the same time, diplomats are paying attention to the geography of Russian strikes - gas and energy infrastructure facilities in the east of Ukraine are mostly under attack. "They are trying to divide Ukraine in half in the energy sense. They want everything east of the Dnieper to freeze this winter," explained one of the European ambassadors.
According to the Ukrainian government official, Russia seeks to "provoke an uprising" and "destroy social unity" so that Ukrainians oppose the current government. The reaction of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs speaks of the seriousness of the problem. An official warning was issued there for Ukrainians, especially those living in front-line cities and communities.
In it, they emphasized that constant strikes on the power grid increase the risks for Ukrainians in terms of keeping warm in homes, schools and medical centers. At the same time, according to Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Industry Research Center, Ukraine is sufficiently well prepared to protect the energy infrastructure.
He admits that the winter will be difficult, but emphasizes that Ukrainian energy workers already know what to do to repair damaged infrastructure, and shutdowns have become a controlled process. Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko also admits that Russia wants to plunge Ukraine into darkness. However, she is more optimistic and says that the goal of the Ukrainian government is to preserve the light.
One of the government officials, who remained on the condition of anonymity, expresses even more optimism: "This winter is the last opportunity for the Russians to defeat us. And if we survive until April 1, we will win the war. " We will remind that on November 12 "Poltavoblenergo" reported that the Poltava region was completely disconnected from the unified energy system.
