A meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Cyprus took place in Nicosia, during which they discussed support for Ukrainians and increased pressure against Russia

In Nicosia, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis. The head of state congratulated Cyprus on the beginning of its presidency in the Council of the European Union. "Thank you for your support, especially for humanitarian support during this war and Russian attacks," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The leaders discussed the support of Ukraine's European integration during Cyprus' presidency of the Council of the European Union and the opening of negotiation clusters as soon as possible. Volodymyr Zelenskyi emphasized that Ukraine is counting on strong decisions and real progress during these six months. In addition, it was about the defense support of Ukraine, the strengthening of air defense, the supply of drones and the participation of Cyprus in the PURL and SAFE programs.

The head of state separately noted the participation of Cyprus in the Coalition of the Willing. The leaders discussed the diplomatic situation and joint efforts with American and European partners to achieve a dignified peace. Particular attention is paid to the importance of strengthening sanctions against Russia, in particular the introduction of additional restrictions against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation and proposals for the 20th sanctions package of the European Union.
