Earlier, in October last year, Musk denied that he personally talked to Putin. In his post on Twitter (the social network he recently renamed X), a billionaire wrote that he spoke with Putin about a year and a half ago and the topic of the conversation was space. The publication in New Yorker has again stirred public resonance on the topic of peace talks. Last year, Musk proposed his peace plan, which was appreciated in the Kremlin and criticized in Kiev.

Some time after that, the Ukrainian defenders began to report the poor work of Starlink, and Musk, for its part, was completely threatened with stopping the funding of access to the Armed Forces to the service. His company SpaceX was offered the United States Government for Starlink for Ukraine, in the future Musk said he was changing his position, and promised to finance this project free of charge. In June, the US Defense Ministry announced a starlink contract for Ukraine.
