The weapon will allegedly be able to bypass the advanced American anti-missile system "Golden Dome", which is being created to protect against ballistic and hypersonic missiles. This is stated in the material of The New York Times. "This is a bad development. This is another science fiction weapon that will destabilize the situation and will be difficult to deal with under arms control," said Geoffrey Lewis, an expert in the field of nuclear disarmament.
Another specialist from Geneva, Pavlo Podvig, believes that this missile will not be useful for the Russian Federation. It is intended to strike in response to a US nuclear attack, but in such a case, the first attacks will be aimed specifically at the launch sites of the "Stormboy". According to other analysts, Putin's statements about the Burevisnyk test should be considered not only in a military, but also in a diplomatic context.
Moscow previously offered to extend the SNO-3 treaty, the last major agreement between Russia and the United States on strategic arms control, which expires in February. Continuation of the document could allow Russia to focus its efforts on military actions in Ukraine and avoid the expensive build-up of nuclear arsenals.
Meanwhile, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmytro Peskov, said that there is "nothing" in the tests of the latest missile that should cause tension between Moscow and Washington, as bilateral relations, according to him, are already at a minimal level. "So far, the first timid efforts have been made in order to bring these relations out of the state of such, former numbness," Peskov added.
