According to the Odessa authorities, at the UNESCO meeting, representatives of the Russian Federation sought to exclude the issue from the agenda. But such an offer was rejected. On Wednesday, January 25, at a meeting of UNESCO experts in Paris, the historical center of Odessa was declared an object of world heritage, which is in danger. About it reports Reuters.

Such an initiative of the UN Specialized Institution on Education, Science and Culture is intended to help protect the cultural heritage of the city, which is threatened through the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The emergence of Odessa in the UNESCO cultural monument will provide financial and technical international assistance to the city, which has repeatedly came under Russian shelling.

Thus, in July last year, part of the glass roof and windows of the Odessa Museum of Fine Arts were injured during the air strikes. The museum was opened more than a hundred years ago. According to the city authorities at the UNESCO meeting, representatives of the Russian Federation demanded the exclusion of this issue from the agenda, but their proposal was rejected.
