Pentagon intends to strengthen the monitoring of weapons shipped to Ukraine - GAO report

The document emphasizes that the shortcomings in tracking "weapons transfer to third parties" are of concern among some American politicians. This may affect the future of assisting Ukraine. The US Government Report (GAO) has identified shortcomings in coordination between the Ministry of Defense and the State Department for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. It is about $ 6.

33 billion, which were allocated in the framework of "weapons transfer to third parties", or more precisely, for military funding for 10 European countries to hand over to Ukraine weapons and equipment of American production. This was reported on August 20 at Defense One. The GAO report shows that the US State Department has sanctioned 217 such supplies, including Stinger anti-aircraft installations, air-air missiles and Javelin anti-tank systems.

These supplies require enhanced final use to ensure that weapons get to the right recipients and are used as intended. The administration revealed that the state has been processing requests for weapons for Ukraine on average for 12 days, which is much faster than for other countries. However, in this process, the Pentagon often does not have enough information about such supply until they arrive in Ukraine. This leads to limiting data on the scale and state of supply of US weapons to Ukraine.

Despite the fact that the General Inspector of the Ministry of Defense did not detect the systematic redirection of the weapons transferred to Ukraine, the shortcomings in tracking are of concern among some American politicians. This, in turn, can affect the future assistance to Ukraine, which, according to Kiev, is vital for its protection against Russian attacks.
