Niger played one of the key roles for the US in the fight against Islamic terrorists. Russian soldiers have already arrived at the base of 101. Niger's military junta forced the US to withdraw its troops from the country. Now Russian fighters have entered the territory of the air base. About it reports Reuters with reference to sources. A high -ranking official of the US Defense Ministry said that after the decision of the junta to withdraw the contingent of the US Army, Russian troops included it.

Their number is about 60 fighters. Earlier, Niger was a key partner for the United States in the fight against rebels in the region who knocked down thousands of people and millions became refugees. The source also stated that the Russian forces do not mix with the US, but use a separate hangar at the 101 Air Base, which is located near Dior Hamani International Airport in the Nima capital.

The publication states that this step puts the Russian troops and the US at the immediate vicinity at a time when military and diplomatic rivalry between states increases through the war in Ukraine. The presence of Russians on the basis raises the question of the future of American objects in Niger after the withdrawal of troops. "The situation is not the best, but in the near future it is managed," the official said.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has rejected the risk to US troops or based on equipment based. The Russians are in a separate complex and do not have access to equipment and troops. "I am always focused on the safety and protection of our troops . . . But now I do not see a significant problem here in terms of protecting our forces," Austin summarized. According to the newspaper, the US two -star general was sent to Niger to organize a professional and responsible withdrawal of troops.
