The Russian Federation will receive the C-500 SPR in 2024: how real the claimed characteristics

The Russian complex is supposed to intercept targets in space, as well as ballistic missiles within 500-600 km. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that in 2024 the Russian army will receive the first samples of the SCR C-500 "Prometheus" in two modifications. About it reports TASS. According to Shogu, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will receive the SCRC C-500 together with the anti-aircraft missiles of the long-range radius and anti-missile defense complexes.

In addition, it is planned to supply C-400, C-300V4 and other anti-aircraft missile complexes and radar stations. Defense Express tried to dispel myths, from the C-500, which was to come to the Russian army 10 years ago. The Russian Federation states that Prometheus has a range of 500-600 km, and the complex itself is allegedly a sample of the fifth generation. The authors note that the first complex was sent to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in September 2021.

At the same time, it was said that he should come to the fighting in the Moscow area. The development of the C-500 began in 2002, and as of 2008, the fourth stage of research and design work under the Vlastelin-TP code was carried out. All works, according to experts, are the use of the Soviet Union's work in the 1980s. Initially, it was planned that in 2010 there would be tests that will last until 2015 and start production in 2014.

By 2020, the army of the Russian Federation had to receive 10 complexes. But in fact, the terms of supply were not respected. Prometheus is the further modernization of the C-300 and C-400, so it has a anti-aircraft missiles 40H6M from the C-400, as well as 776, which is the modernization of the 9M82 rocket from the C-300V. The latter rocket should affect ballistic missiles.

At the same time, the Russian Federation states that the C-400 Balticism will be able to intercepite the radius of 500-600 km. But the main problem of 9M82 is that it cannot knock down a ballistic missile with kinetic interception, that is, to strike the target itself, not to explode nearby.

Separately in the Russian Federation stated that the C-500 would allegedly be able to beat targets in space with the help of a rocket 77H6-H, but this statement causes skepticism even in the Russian Federation. The radar station consists of a 60K6 -inspection station and two RLS 77T6 and 76T6. The opportunity to beat 10 ballistic goals at the same time is declared.
