The massacre of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine became the culmination of Russian experiments - ISW

According to analysts, attacking Ukraine on December 29, Russia relied on lessons learned during its intelligence and research missions and efforts to test the Ukrainian Air Defense. The shelling of the territory of Ukraine on December 29 was probably the culmination of several months of experiments of the Russian Federation with different combinations of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles, as well as efforts to test the Ukrainian air defense.

This is stated in the report of the Institute of War Study (ISW) of December 29. According to analysts, in the last few months the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have inflicted a series of strokes of different power across Ukraine, using different combinations of UAVs, winged and ballistic missiles. The invaders were usually used or exclusively shaped UAV or the same drones in combination with fewer missiles.

For a massive shelling, on December 29, the Russians used 36 Shahd UAVs and more than one hundred rockets of different types. According to the authors of the report, the invaders use drones to bypass the air defense, and rockets - to task the maximum damage to the intended goals.

"Russia has probably deliberately accumulated rockets of different sizes in the fall and early winter of 2023 to create a variety of shock complex and apply the lessons learned during various recent reconnaissance and research missions," the ISW said. We will remind, in the morning on December 29 the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out the largest rocket attack, releasing 158 air purposes in the peaceful cities of Ukraine. The air defense forces managed to destroy 114 air purposes.
