20 years had a passport of the Russian Federation: Zelensky took away from Metropolitan Onufri Citizenship of Ukraine
It is emphasized that Orest Berezovsky has a passport of the Russian Federation since 2002, but hid it for decades, using the status of a citizen of Ukraine. The department's press service told what the data on Onufri was collected. It turned out that the Metropolitan was in contact with the governing bodies of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow and prevented the canonical independence of the Ukrainian Church.
In addition, the priests of the Moscow Patriarchate act on the Kremlin's side during the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, and the UOC Primate supports the actions of the Russian Church and its leader - Patriarch Cyril (Gundyaeva), installed the SBU. The special services reminded that Gundyaev blessed the aggression of the Russians and supports the genocide of the Ukrainian people. The UOC's resources have no reaction to the abolition of Ukrainian citizenship Metropolitan Onufri.
Orest Berezovsky's personal comments were not found. At the same time, the Facebook community dedicated to Onufri assures that it will not lose the "power of spirit" and the support of parishioners. The portal of President Zelensky did not publish a decree on Orest Berezovsky's citizenship.
Onufriy (Orest Berezovsky)-an 81-year-old UOC Primate (since August 2014), born in the Chernivtsi region, graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy, managed the Pochaiv Lavra, was Metropolitan Chernivtsi and Bukovinsky. In the first days of the Russian invasion, the priest called on the President of the Russian Federation to stop the "fratricidal war".
In the spring of the same year, the UOC held a cathedral where it removed from the Russian Orthodox Church, but did not leave Moscow subordination. It should be noted that in 2023 the investigation of "Ukrainian Pravda" confirmed that Onufri has a passport of the Russian Federation. Among other things, it turned out that he was probably received Russian citizenship in 2002. At the same time Berezovsky had a Russian foreign passport, which was updated in 1998 and 2003.
The first reaction of the Metropolitan appeared. According to him, the SBU was checked, which found that he had never had Russian citizenship. But within a few days the priest denied his own words and explained that he really received a passport of the Russian Federation, but never paid attention. We remind that in the summer of 2024 the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the bill on the ban on religious organizations governed by the Russian Federation.
