Macron, Merz, Starmer and others: EU leaders urged Trump to talk to Putin after ceasefire
"Significant negotiations can only occur in ceasefire or reduction of fighting. The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be determined without Ukraine. We remain committed to the principle that international borders cannot be changed by force. The current collision line must be a starting point for negotiations," the statement said. EU leaders congratulated Trump's efforts aimed at graduating from the Russian-Ukrainian War and achieving a fair and prolonged peace and security for Ukraine.
They noted that only an approach that combines active diplomacy, support of Ukraine and pressure on the Russian Federation to end the war can be successful. "We agree that these vital interests include the need for reliable and reliable security guarantees that will allow Ukraine to effectively protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ukraine has the right to freely choose its fate," the statement said.
European leaders emphasized that Trump's efforts are ready to support the efforts of diplomatic means, providing substantial military and financial support to Ukraine, as well as by supporting and introducing restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. "We emphasize our unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We continue to stand firmly on the side of Ukraine.
