Mobilization up to 25 years old: demography explained why young people should not be called in the Armed Forces

The best age for mobilization to the Armed Forces is 30 years of age, says Demography Ella Libanova. Such limits cannot be introduced because there are problems in the economy and the army. A generation of 25-year-old Ukrainians is the least in the history of the country. Therefore, for Ukraine, the best way is not to touch the military aged from 18 to 25 years.

Who has the optimal age for mobilization and why the demographin, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor Ella Libanova should not be called up to 25 years. Libanova explained that about 30 million Ukrainians live in Ukraine in the third year of the war. In this case, the labor market requires 4. 5 million labor, employers willingly hire 60-year-old, and fertility ratio fell below one.

Meanwhile, the war continues and require replenishment, but it believes a demography, men should not mobilize men under 25 years. In her opinion, if such young people find themselves in the army, the number of dead will increase. The reason for possible tragic consequences is the peculiarities of youth behavior, the scientist noted.

"I believe that [a mobilization prohibition of up to 25 years] makes sense but not for demographic reasons, but because 18-20-year-old people are more reckless than older men. I think the loss would be greater if to put on The leading too young people, ”Libanova stressed. In addition, the demography shared her own thoughts about what age is optimal for the conscription to the Armed Forces.

According to her, most often parents become between the ages of 25 and 29, that is, it is best to mobilize men from 30 years. However, she acknowledged that this is not possible in the current environment. "From the point of view of demography, it would be most appropriate to mobilize only men from 30 years. But such an increase in minimal age is impossible for other reasons, military and economic," the scientist summed up.

It should be noted that in the spring of 2024, government officials abolished the status of "restricted" and this affected men, aged 18 to 25 years old - they immediately received the status of "suitability" and their terrocentras began to mobilize them to the Armed Forces. MPs, for example, Alexei Goncharenko and others, believed that this is a consequence of a certain imperfection of the legislation and in the summer began to develop a bill that would close such a "conflict".

While awaiting the decisions of the people's deputies, in the fall of 2024, the land troops issued a directive to ban mobilization for up to 25 years, but the text of this document was not published in the media. On October 9, the Verkhovna Rada was supported by the Law No. 11379-D on the ban on mobilization of men aged 18 to 25 years. The law was signed by the Chairman of the Council Ruslan Stefanchuk and on October 15 he was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
