Offensive on Kharkiv: Armed Forces engineers massively replaced approaches to defensive borders - General Staff (photo)

Ukrainian engineers and sappers from the first days of 2024 were built by defense bonds in Kharkiv region, stated in the General Staff. Tens of thousands of mines were said there. The forces of support of the Armed Forces were engaged in engineering fortification works on fortifications before the onset of the Russian Federation on Kharkiv. Among other things, in Kharkiv they installed tens of thousands of mines to prevent the promotion of Russian troops.

The press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told about the work of support engineers in the Armed Forces on the Facebook page. The Ukrainian command claims that the sappers of support forces worked on the protection of Kharkiv region. In particular, in the first months of 2024, tens of thousands of mines were installed on the approaches to the defense borders of the Armed Forces.

The post also lists what else they are doing with: the General Staff press also published several photographs that illustrate the work of sappers of support forces. One photo is a fighter who carefully puts an explosive device in the ground. For the other two, the preparation of the mine for work and wrapping it in the ground. Where exactly the frames of the work of the sappers - in Kharkiv or in another section of the front are made - is not indicated.

Meanwhile, the day before, on May 13, the commander of support, Major General Dmitry Gerega told about the construction of the fortification line. He stressed that it is difficult for engineers to work on the front country, threatened with Russian shelling. However, they work and use wooden bars (easy to install and replace, fewer fragments when hit) and concrete structures (for support points and fire points).

There is also special antitrone protection, explained the commander on the portal "Armia Inform". It should be noted that the General Staff of the Armed Forces in the morning of May 14 reported that during the attack on Kharkiv the enemy was able to displace Ukrainian fighters from the village of Lukyanka. In addition, there are shooting fights in Volchansk, located northeast of the regional center.

Meanwhile, after the commencement of the fighting on May 10, one of the Ukrainian military noted that he did not notice particularly powerful fortifications that would defend the border in Kharkiv. In response, the chairman of the Volchansk Military Administration stated that the line of defense was built, but it was probably not quite "dense" because of the relief and shelling of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
