On July 1, Russia took over the presidency of the UN Security Council from Belgium and will head this international body throughout the month. In particular, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will preserve on the debate on July 16 and 17. Russia, which for the first time since April 2023, began to preserve the United Nations Security Council will use this chairmanship to demonstrate its power and influence that it has on the international system.

This is stated in the report of the American Institute of War Study (ISW) for July 1, 2024. "Russia is likely to use this position as a basis for the projection of force in the international system, as it did historically," the report said. Analysts have specified that Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov will preserve the debate at the UN Security Council on July 16 and 17.

According to ISW, in April 2023, the Russian Federation used its chairmanship at the UN Security Council to promote several narratives on its own influence on the international system and used its veto in this body as a basis for the projection of force.

"Several high -ranking Russian officials have recently launched several information operations aimed at lifting responsibility for well -documented violations of international law committed by Russia in Ukraine, and probably in order to create conditions for future presidency in the UN Security Council", - said in ISW.

It should be noted that Russia has adopted the presidency of the UN Security Council from Belgium on July 1 and will have this opportunity within a month, since it is provided for in the charter of this organization, which provides for the rotational presidency of its members. We will remind, on June 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared the need for a truce in Ukraine, but with Kiev the Kremlin is not ready to negotiate.
