From Challenger 2 to Soviet Technology: As in the UK, spare parts for the Armed Forces are made

In order to establish the production of components for Soviet armored vehicles, British experts resorted to museum exhibits and reference documents of the Cold War. Also, technical experts in armored vehicles participated in the task. The British company Defense Equipment & Support (De&S) has concluded several contracts with the leading world developer and manufacturer of tank caterpillars with Kook Defense Systems (CDS) for the supply of spare parts for 500 Ukrainian armored vehicles.

About it reports the British edition of UK Defense Journal. It is interesting that in addition to the supply of caterpillars for machines transmitted by the United Kingdom of Ukraine, including the main combat tanks of Challenger 2, CDS also instructed to make caterpillars for cars of the Soviet era used by a large part of the Ukrainian army.

According to the director of the firm William Cook, the CDS has the experience of making caterpillars for the armed forces of the Allies, but the task of producing accessories for samples of Soviet technology was special. "We had to interfere with the Soviet equipment using limited reference material and many own know-how, working with production processes and materials available to us, and not with original Russian," KUK said.

According to him, production is established promptly, since the life of Ukrainian fighters depends on the delivery time. It is noteworthy that in order to develop new caterpillars, compatible with Soviet machines, CDS specialists had to resort to the help of museum exhibits, reference documents of the Cold War and technical experts in armored vehicles. At the same time, modern technologies, such as laser scanning and digital X-ray control, are used during production.

"One of the most difficult tasks was almost doubling of production volumes. We changed the configuration of production lines and hired new employees where it was possible. Everyone is working exceptionally intensely, but we are incredibly proud of what we are changing the world for the better," KUK stressed. For her part, DE&S, Director of De&S, said the British show that the British showed an example of skill and ingenuity and solved the task on the principle of "I can do it".
