The Ministry of Internal Affairs will remove all weapons from the population after the war: what Ukrainians need to know about it now

Interior Minister Igor Klimenko reported that after the martial law, Ukrainians will have to surrender, sell or process for the allowed type of weapons that they have in their hands. Whether the punishment awaits those who ignore the requirements of the state may have a focus. After the end of the war in Ukraine, all citizens will have to hand over, sell, or process for the allowed type of weapons that they have in their hands.

Igor Klimenko, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. "Upon completion of martial law, the weapon will be property of the state. Then a term will be defined, I think a few months during which every citizen should bring weapons to police or business entities, hand it over or sell the same business entities, or navigate , or reworked for allowed weapons, hunting carbine, for example, " - said the minister.

He also reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to work on a law on the circulation of civilian weapons. Klimenko stressed that there is a lot of discussions around this issue. According to the minister, Ukrainians have the right to feel safety, for this weapon in the country should be registered and controlled, and there must be clear rules of its wearing and use.

Focus asked Denis, Bachinsky and partners' lawyers and the Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology of Lviv National University, whether the police will really be able to remove all the weapons available from the civilian population and what problems can arise. "The removal of all weapons into civilians in Ukraine is an ambitious purpose, but quite real," Solomiya Denis comments.

It should be understood that in this case it is about two types of weapons (here are ammunition): after the end of hostilities and martial law, citizens will be taken away from both the first and second weapons. As the lawyer emphasizes, the state expects that Ukrainians will voluntarily do it within the allotted period. "It is the responsibility of the person himself. Indeed, the legislator in this case actually rests with the high legal culture of Ukrainian citizens," she notes.

However, if Ukrainians ignore the requirements of the state, it can end with criminal proceedings and quite real sentences. Denis explains that a rigid sanction is provided for illegal storage of weapons - from 3 to 7 years in prison. "If it is found that there is a certain unbroken weapon that a person retains without legitimate reason, then criminal proceedings will be opened and law enforcement officers will be removed within the pre -trial investigation," the lawyer adds.

As for the weapon that the state has issued to civilians, it is all registered, it will not be possible to hide it from the police, the expert specifies. In the case where the weapon has been lost or stolen, the citizen also has the obligation to inform the National Police of Ukraine. If before the end of the war a civilian whose weapons were lost or stolen will not inform law enforcement agencies, the police will find out the intent to conceal such information, Denis says.

"In other words, everything will depend on the specific situation - what was guided by a person who did not report it whether it was really done intentionally or for other reasons," the lawyer summarizes. We will remind, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko also informed that in Ukraine at the end of June will work a single register of weapons. According to him, this will greatly simplify the process of buying and selling it.
