George Lewis was called to work a month after his 18th anniversary and was a tank commander. He participated in battles in Belgium, Holland and Germany. The 98-year-old World War II veteran George Lewis from Watchete (England) finally received his medals for almost 80 years. BBC News writes about it. The man served in the royal tank regiment from 1944 to 1947. But he never received his medals, and Mr. Lewis suggested that they could get lost in the post office.

"After so many years, it was great to get these two awards," he said. The path to the award ceremony began with the fact that neighbor Valer Norman contacted her brother, who served in the same regiment as Mr. Lewis. Her brother passed the story to the regimental association, which gave medals. At the west, the club of the royal British Legion in the Wotchet, Lieutenant Somerset Lieutenant, Brigade Richard Tumi, presented a pensioner military medal in 1939-45 and the star of France and Germany.

"It was a shock like everything else. You imagine that after so many years they will not be able to find anything about you but they had all the records. It seems horrible fuss when I did not seem to be something special but It is nice to know that they respect what we have tried for people, "the British said. Mr. Lewis was called to service in February 1944, a month after his 18th anniversary, and was a tank commander, participated in battles in Belgium, Holland and Germany.

The man also told how he and his friend went with a group of 10 people to protect them while they were digging a trench. In the evening, they returned to pick up the wounded. "It means a lot to us because we still said that he did not receive his medals. We could never understand why he had no awards but we did nothing.

My father just said they got lost in I am very glad to have received such recognition, he is really very pleased with all this, "said his daughter Liz Lewis, who lives with his father. Earlier, Focus reported that the 72-year-old grandmother checks American slides for extremeness. During the years of her career, Jackie Smith became the first woman to join a parachute regiment of the British army and received a prestigious red beret of a parachute regiment.
